I didn't sleep last night so that I can polish my thesis paper for my Statistics class. The deadline was today... I edited few more wordings lunch today and finally typed in my Cover page. My paper is ready for print work. I thwart my file from getting corrupt, I saved the file twice in my flash disk. I even rechecked the flash disk before securing it in my bag... I retried opening the file... and OOPPPPPSSSS..
Pop-up box saying: Word was unable to read this document. It may be corrupt(see screenshot)!! I tried opening the original file and a similar notice popped up... DOOM! I am left with no saved file... And It's 4 hours away from our deadline.
You may have encountered a quite similar scenario. Sometimes, things really start messing up when there is pressure. I kind of break down at the start... But when you experience this similar scenario... Don't panic cause it has an easy solution. They will give this instruction and it works... so there is hope.
This error message can appear if the document you are attempting to open is corrupt. It is possible to recover a corrupt file or its content by using either the Recover Text converter (may require installation) or the Open and Repair feature.
The Open and Repair feature is available from the Open dialog. To open and attempt a repair, select the document using File | Open... and then navigate to the damaged file and click on it once. Instead of selecting the Open button at the bottom right of the dialog to open the file, select the down arrow to the right of the button and select Open and Repair from the resulting list. If the file can be recovered, it will open and display in the document work area.
The Recover Text converter, if installed, is available from the Open dialog and appears in the Files of type: drop down (to the left of the Cancel button). It appears in the drop down list as: Recover Text from Any File (*.*).
I tried recovering the file through the OPEN and REPAIR FEATURE. Please follow this sequence of instructions..
1) Open a new window of Microsoft Word.
2) Then click the File button, and click OPEN in the dropdown.
3) A pop-up box will open showing your computer's files, navigate the corrupt file that you want to open.
4) Click it once.
5) Instead of clicking the OPEN button in the right lower side of the pop-up window, click the DROPDOWN arrow found in the right part of the OPEN button.
6) Select Open and Repair.
*** The recovered file will then show up in your Microsoft Word window.
Hope you got it right!!! ^____^ And hope I helped you!
